The Council's Peer Mentoring Project is an exciting opportunity for three Missouri High Schools to take part in a pilot program that truly values the need to include students with disabilities academically and socially. Typically the focus on such programs hs been the benefits for students with disabilities. However, new research is demonstrating the benefits of these types of programs for ALL students with positive outcomes in academic and social measures. All people are people first and all have needs and rights. Everyone wants to enjoy life, feel productive and secure. Most people have disabilities of one kind or another. The differences lie mostly in degree and whether our disabilities are seen or unseen. You can help remind others of these important facts during Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The Missouri DD Council wants to assist you by providing suggested activities and free instructional materials. The Council also encourages you to partner with other organizations so more events can be planned and more information shared. Watch for our 2012 Awareness Month Poster and bookmarks, which will be available soon!

When Molly was placed in the Marshall Habilitation Center in 1951, she was only a child. She lived most of her life on the campus. This year, at the age of 63, Molly moved to the community. “Good Golly, Miss Molly: One Family's Story of Transition” follows her and her family through the process. To request DVD versions of Molly’s Story or for more information, contact us at 800-500-7878 or email cbrown@mpcdd.com.
